Art mirrors society. It represents culture, place, the environment, beliefs and thinking. At the same time, "Art has the ability to transcend us beyond the ordinary." (Rosalyn Dexter, Chinese Whispers). My goal as a painter is to show emotion and beauty through color, texture, and composition. I want to tell a story, but leave it to the viewer to finish the story,

I love painting with a palette knife and lots of oil paint on big canvasses. My subject matter is primarily my beloved Low Country of South Carolina - the mysterious marshes whose colors are myriad and always changing, the ocean, creeks, and magnificent skies. Basically, I would describe my work as favoring the impressionists' school of painting.
