John Gale Kenney was born in Pittsburgh, Pa in 1950.While attending Washington & Jefferson College, he discovered his interest in oil painting.Although a science major, he studied art with Paul Edwards who was heavily influenced by Paul's friend, Andy Warhol.John seriously returned to painting in 2008.and studied extensively with Rick Weaver in Charlottesville, Va.From the beginning John's work has been characterized by a sense of composition and color. He focuses on low country scenes developing them through tone, value and the manipulation of light.His style is described as a realist impressionist. He lives with his wife in the low country of South Carolina.
