Hetty P. Nijman

Hetty was born in the Netherlands among the gunshots of war and the smell of turpentine from her father's atelier. She immigrated to Canada as a young adult, married and had two daughters, all the while pursuing her interest in art on a part-time basis. Eventually the family moved to the U.S. and with it came the opportunity to go back to school. Hetty earned her B.A. in Art from Northern Illinois University, continuing her art education by attending graduate school and taking many workshops.

Hetty's current areas of interest seesaws between abstracts and landscapes. The abstracts are her favorite because she feels they are pulled from her mind and emotions; the landscapes are "proof of sanity!"
