2010 Spring Show Judge
Edith Patterson Brown

Edie Brown was born and raised in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. She received a degree in Fine Arts and Psychology from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Edie connected her love of art and of people while studying Art Therapy in London. She furthered her education in New York City where she completed a Masters Degree in Education for Counseling in Colleges and Community Agencies at New York University. Edie has taught and led creative workshops and art classes, done murals and paintings for private clients, and shown her work in galleries in Boston, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York. Edie currently lives in Marcellus, New York with her husband and three children. Edie’s passion lies in discovering the truth of process in creating art. She works to provide useful and practical tools to others that they may gain this understanding and, in turn, reach new levels of creativity in their artistic endeavors. She believes art is a powerful means of communication, evoking and invoking an emotional, spiritual, and/or inspired dialogue with the artist and the viewer. Edie believes art is a calling and a gift to both experience and share. There is no greater gift than to overcome fears, blocks and/or training to embrace the form of art that uniquely expresses the heart of an individual artist.

Edie Brown Workshops

March 15-16 10-5

Day One: Art is a Gift

Are you blocked, frustrated, or looking for a fresh perspective to inspire your artwork? Creating and sharing the emotional and personal creative process is an amazing gift. Whether you are an accomplished artist or simply have a desire to grow, you are drawn to create for a reason. This hands-on workshop will provide you with tools to view both the process of creating art and sharing it as a very special gift. Students will realize, develop, and explore the spiritual and/or emotional aspects of creating art using acrylic paint on canvas, in combination with journaling, prayer, and/or meditation. Focusing on PROCESS NOT PRODUCT, you will discover and practice these powerful tools and techniques which will inspire you to engage more fully in the creative experience, embrace your unique artistic style, and share that gift with others.

Day Two: Art and Layers

Build on Day One or start fresh in this hands-on workshop where artists will discover how the emotional and/or spiritual creative experience can and should be shared in and through our work as artists. Artists have a powerful and unique gift of sharing their experiences and the world around them through art. Enjoy the process of layering techniques using a combination of acrylic paint, and/or mixed media, on canvas. Journaling, prayer and/or meditation techniques will guide your work toward a more truthful and open level of creativity. See the world and your art differently as you learn to embrace past and current experiences as a celebration of your creative process. Learn how sharing your story through art can heal and inspire yourself and others.

For more information and to sign up call Sandy Dimke (843-846-9580).
